Bad Blood (The Naturals #4) ((The Naturals #4))

Bad Blood (The Naturals #4) ((The Naturals #4)) - Jennifer Lynn Barnes Rating: 5 Stars

OMG what an A.M.A.Z.I.N.G end to a F.A.N.T.A.S.T.I.C series! I am really sad that this series is over, but I will certainly be rereading it again soon.

What gives this book 5 stars?
1.) The cover is perfect, and I love how it matches all the other covers in the series with a general theme.
2.) The building romance between Cassie and Dean, pretty much throughout the series is perfect and satisfying!
3.) I loved the overall plot. The building suspense throughout the series in regards to Cassie's mother was a surprising and unexpected end in this series.

I must say this would make a great YA TV series! Just sayin'!! :D

The Loose Ends List

The Loose Ends List - Carrie Firestone Rating: 4 Stars

I loved this story. It was the kind of story I don't normally read, but enjoyed all the same. And I think I found a new YA genre to enjoy...stepping out of the box.

What gives this book 4 stars?

1.) It was a heartwarming story about family, friends who become family, and finding that perfect guy in the mist of all the sorrow.
2.) I loved the humor, sarcasticness, and inspiration of all the characters. The characters really developed wonderfully throughout the story.
3.) I liked the first person pov, it made me feel as though I was Maddie and experiencing everything she was seeing, feeling, and thinking.
4.) And lastly that cover, absolutely beautiful! The perfect tie-in for the story.

A must read!

And the Trees Crept In

And the Trees Crept In - Dawn Kurtagich Rating: 1 Star

This is a really weird book...nuff' said...

Christmas Caramel Murder

Christmas Caramel Murder - Joanne Fluke I have NEVER given a book one star but this book was SO disappointing it deserved it. This book, imho, should NEVER have been published. I waited 4-6 months for this?!?! The overall idea of this book, discussing a mystery Hannah solved a year a go to her new husband, Ross, over dinner, was pathetic. Please Mrs. Fluke, make Ross stop calling Hannah "Cookie", could you have been more original with a nickname. Sheesh!! This book was a total disappointment, actually the rest of the series is since Hannah, stupidly, married Ross!

The Girl's Guide to Absolutely Everything: Advice on Absolutely Everything

The Girl's Guide to Absolutely Everything: Advice on Absolutely Everything - Melissa Kirsch Rating: 4 Stars

Every woman starting college or just starting out in the real world, like me, need this book. It covers "EVERYTHING" from dating, friends, how to apply for a job, college life, money habits, and SO much more. This book is going to help me so much in my near future. I don't know how I came across this book but once I found it I felt I needed to have it. It's not the kind of book you sit and read the whole thing over a few days, I mean you could, but it's more of the kind of book you pick up randomly and read bits and pieces of. It's kind of like a guide book where you look up something that is relevant at that point in time, if you understand what I'm saying.

Anyway, I think this is a great book for young adult women in their early to mid-20's.

There are some things I don't quite agree with, hence the -1 star. But all in all, there is a lot of good information about everything under the sun relating to life in general packed into less than 600 pages. Definitely worth reading, and having on hand.

Explorer's Guide 50 Hikes in the North Georgia Mountains: Walks, Hikes & Backpacking Trips from Lookout Mountain to the Blue Ridge to the Chattooga River (Explorer's 50 Hikes)

Explorer's Guide 50 Hikes in the North Georgia Mountains: Walks, Hikes & Backpacking Trips from Lookout Mountain to the Blue Ridge to the Chattooga River (Explorer's 50 Hikes) - Johnny Molloy Rating: 5 Stars

This book is amazing! I'm so glad I bought this book! This book is very informative from trail maps, directions to the hiking spot, descriptions of the hiking location, history and what to expect while hiking there. My family and I love hiking so this book was well worth the money spent. It lists all the hiking trails within a 30-40 mile radius of where we live. With this book we have uncovered hiking trails that we didn't even know were so close to us.

A must have for North GA hikers!

Between Shades of Gray

Between Shades of Gray - Ruta Sepetys Rating: 5 Stars

Another amazing story by Ruta Sepetys.  The story follows a Lithuanian family that were forced out of their home, separated from their father/husband and forced to work ungodly tasks and hours in a concentration camp.  Not the most pleasurable reading, but inspiring none the less.

What gives this book 5 stars?
1.) The fearlessness and courage of the main character Lina during a time of complete torture is truly inspiring. Her hope of finding and reconnecting with her father is so strong throughout the story.
2.) The mother is also a very fearless woman that maintains order, love and kindness among the other reoccurring characters in the concentration camp(s).
3.) In this story you will learn about a side of WWII that has not mentioned in most history context.  I appreciate the author for writing about this particular piece of history that has not been acknowledged as much as it deserves to be.

Salt to the Sea

Salt to the Sea - Ruta Sepetys Rating: 5 Stars

I LOVED this book!!!! What more can I say, I literally read this book for 3 days straight. It was so amazingly written. I have never, in my entire reading life, read something as beautiful as this.

What gives this book 5 stars?
1.) The cover!! The cover is just perfect in every sense of the word. It couldn't be more fitting for the theme/setting of the story.
2.) I love that there is a mild hint of romance between Joana and Florian. It adds to the character development.
3.) I love how the book is told in 4 different points of view, even though I didn't particularly like reading Alfred's story line in the form of letters to his former love.
4.) I thought the ship wreck part of the story it was well researched and well incorporated, although I wish it would have been more of the main focus instead of the journey to the ship, and the trickery played to get on the ship. But this doesn't hinder my review in any way.

1984

1984 - George Orwell, Erich Fromm Rating: To Come

Wow, this book is mind blowing, seriously!

"WAR IS PEACE
FREEFOM IS SLAVERY
IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH."

Such power and meaning in these three lines. These are so true not only in our 21st century, but also 30 to 40 years ago.

I am only 20 pages into this book, and I must admit that it is kind of hard to understand and grasp the full concept, but the meaning behind words and phrases are incredible. It is incredible in its self that Mr. Orwell was able to describe a future, 30-40 years into his future, with such accuracy.

Full review to come upon completing!

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child - J.K. Rowling, John Kerr Tiffany, Jack Thorne Okay, so I do intend to read read the "latest installment" of the Harry Potter series. However, there are a few points I would like to make about this book. For one, I absolutely love the cover...it couldn't be more perfect! For two, I have seen previews of the characters for the play and I must say the characters for Harry, Ginny, Albus, and Ron are so spot on, its truly magic! For three, even though I was fully aware that it was the script for the play, I am still disappointed that the book was written as such. I was kinda hoping that it would be written as a novel even though it is a script, wishful thinking on my part I guess.

I will give a more detailed review after I read the book.

The Naturals

The Naturals - Jennifer Lynn Barnes Rating: 5 Stars

This book was SO extremely satisfying. This is probably THE best serial killer, teens kick butt mystery YA book I have ever read.

What gives this book 5 stars?
1.) The cover is a perfect tie-in to the novel, if you read it you will later find out why.
2.) The development of the characters is perfect. I also like how each character has a story behind each of their abilities.
3.) The plot is thrilling to the very end. There were so many twists and surprises that it kept me guessing 'til the every end.
4.) The ending was a T.O.T.A.L shocker!!!! Love endings that totally go against the theory you had in mind!

Ashfall

Ashfall - Mike Mullin Rating: 4 Stars

Wow!! All I can say is wow! This book was amazing and soooo realistic.

What gives this book 4 stars?

1.) The plot of this book is a very pplausibleand realistic situation, that could truly happen in our future reality.
2.) The development of the characters, spot on!
3.) Mr. Mullin is a genius for writing this series, a person could totally learn from these books.
4.) The cover(s)...perfectly depicts the story inside.

The perfect natural disaster and survival series!

This World We Live In

This World We Live In - Susan Beth Pfeffer Rating: 5 Stars

This is probably one of my favorite series.  Asteroid collides with moon knocking the moon off rotation causing a series of natural disasters such as tidal tsunamis and volcanoes that lead to disastrous weather conditions.
The first book follows Miranda's family and their fight for survival in a small town in PA.
The second book follows Alex and his two sisters and their fight for survival, as well as, the search for their parents who never returned home after that night.  Their setting takes place in New York City.
In the third book Miranda and her family reunite with her father and step-mom and their little group of travelers.  Among her father's group is Alex and his sister.  As the story progresses Miranda and Alex begin having feelings for each other.

What gives this series 5 stars?
1.) The covers.  As you may have figured out by now, covers are a key part of my rating and review.  I like covers that give you a sense of the story before you read it.  These covers do just that.  The covers each portray the setting and a small description of the moon.
2.) For this particular series and context of the story, the diary format works really well and is easier to read and follow along.  I preferred reading Miranda's diary over Alex's form of a diary because she talked more in first person where as Alex talked in second person.
3.) The overall scenario of the story is very believable.  It is an event that could happen in real life and the effects of something like that happening also could happen.  The survival, food rationing, no power to do basic needs, diseases, FEMA camps all could become a reality in a blink of an eye.  I felt like this story, given that it is fiction, could give me incite as to would life could and would be like.

Overall, an amazing, fast paced series.  Would be a great mini series on TV.

Except the Dying

Except the Dying - Maureen Jennings Rating: To Come

I am really excited to start this series. I am a HUGE fan of the TV series. It is amazing in every sense of the word. I love the setting of Toronto in the early 1900s. I love the methods Murdoch uses to solve each crime...science and logic. I also love the reference to modernday technology. And, of course I love all the characters...there is not one character that I don't like, they all make the show what it is today. Who ever dreamed up the Murdoch Mysteries series is an absolute genius and I am forever grateful! I hope the book series is just as good as the TV series...I shall soon find out.

Ender's Game

Ender's Game - Orson Scott Card Rating: 4 Stars

This wouldn't be my first choice of reading material but I had to read it for school back in 2015. I must admit it wasn't a bad story, I actually started liking it towards the end. However, this isn't a book I will be clamoring to read again. Still it a well developed story line and well developed characters.

Full review to come, upon rereading!

Survival

Survival - Chris Ryan Rating: 4.75 Stars

I liked this book a lot. It was the kind of survival story that peeked my interest from the beginning. The story was very well written and extremely engaging. There were some pretty intense moments after moments of lagging. The characters were well developed and and continued to develop throughout the story. All in all...very enjoyable. I love books by this author, his series Agent 21 is amazing. This was the first I read by Chris Ryan about 4 years ago and I vowed that it would not be my last. Now that I am branching out into adult fiction, I think I might explore some of his other adult books as well.
